JOB vs. Work at Home Business
By Karen | March 14, 2008
I read an interesting article this morning about how to spot a “Scam”. Apparently, the person who wrote this article decided he knew all about the world and decided to appoint himself as protector. Unfortunately all of his ideas were colored with a certain paradigm, the JOB paradigm.
According to this article one of the “clues” to a scam is “work-at-home” in the job title listing. Well, I would have to agree if you are looking for a JOB. Most JOB‘s have you driving into an office and working in a specific location for certain hours. They can tell you when you are entitled to a 15 minute break and at the exact time you can take your 45 minute lunch hour. They tell you when to arrive and when you can go home. They also tell you what you should be doing for the hours you are spending “working” for them.
And for all of this you receive a paycheck. More often than not the paycheck is limited to the amount. The earnings you can create from a JOB are finite and limited according to what your employer offers.
Contrast that with someone who runs his own business from his “home”. This person actually does “work-at-home”. This person does not have a commute or a specific time to be at work. He is at work. He can take a break whenever he feels it to be necessary and lunchtime will be at the time it works best. No one is there to tell him when to go home and stop working. The hours are determined by the amount of work to be done and the dedication of the person. The work may be easy and fun, or it may be long, hard and difficult. The compensation plan is determined by the business owner. He has the opportunity to make as much money as he can. The possibilities for a higher income are infinite. It depends solely upon the person and his own creativity and dedication.
Another clue in the article as to how to spot a “scam” was you paying the people placing the ad. Well of course, if you are looking for a JOB, don’t pay someone. Nobody should pay to get a JOB. But if you are looking for a business and a real opportunity to create something on your own, you need to realize that businesses take an investment. It takes an investment of time, energy and yes, money. If you want someone to hand you an income-producing situation on a silver platter then you need to look for a JOB but if you want the freedom to guide your own life and create your own future, you will need to invest your resources of time, energy and yes, often money.
What kind of life do you want to create? Another clue offered was if there are pictures of vacations, cars and other extravagant wealth then obviously it must be a scam. Well, yes. If you are looking for a JOB, you need to realize that most JOB’s won’t pay you enough to travel, buy nice cars and houses or have the “good life”. At least not right away, perhaps if you stick with the company for awhile and move up the ranks quickly you will have some of those things, or not. You may just get your 2 weeks vacation every year and enough to make the mortgage payments. But you have that security of a JOB!
There are benefits to having a JOB and there are benefits to working for yourself in your own business. Which benefits do you want in your life? The security of a JOB or the Freedom of your own “work-at-home” business? You decide.
There are people out there who are making a fortune from their own “work-at-home” businesses but it is not a free-ride, You have to work and you are the only one responsible for your own success. Do you have what it takes to do that?
When you are looking for a money-making opportunity, are you looking for a JOB or are you looking for a business opportunity? If you really look at it you will see that the difference is vast.
