B. Market Your Online Business For Less
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Business can get expensive. If you are like most people
starting an online business you may quickly find your
savings tapped and your credit cards maxed. That is,
unless you know how to market your online business for
free - or nearly free.

There are many ways to market your business, but not
all methods deliver the same results to every business.
While you learn your way around the online business
world it makes sense to start with the cheap or free
methods of marketing before spending a lot of money on
a system that will not work for you.

Here are three methods for marketing your business for
little or no cost. Some will work better than others
and some will take longer to show results. Find out the
costs as well as the Pros and Cons of each method.

MARKETING METHOD ONE: TRAFFIC EXCHANGES

Traffic exchanges are very popular for new online
businesses. They can be free or charge a monthly fee.
The way they work is that each member views other
members websites, usually for a specified period of
time, to build credits. Their sites will then be
displayed to other members depending on the number of
websites they have viewed.

PRO: Usually free. Lots of traffic quickly.
CON: Traffic is not targeted so usually works better
for businesses that appeal to a wide audience. Viewing
other members websites is time consuming.

MARKETING METHOD TWO: ONLINE FORUMS

Forums are online communities that discuss specific
topics. There are forums (or discussion groups) on just
about any topic you can think of. You can find these by
doing a search for ‘forum’ and your topic. Or you can
go to Google and search the Groups for your key word or
phrase. Forums are usually free to join.

Most forums do not allow commercial solicitations. The
focus is on exchanging information. Be prepared to add
useful comments to the discussion and follow the posted
rules. You may be allowed to attach a signature to your
comments. Put your website in the signature to attract
the search engine spiders and send visitors to your
site. Develop a reputation as an expert on your topic
and give free advice when possible to build
credibility.

PRO: Targeted traffic. Builds credibility
CON: Have to be careful not to be labeled as “spam”.
Must spend time answering questions and posting
comments. Depending on where you post and what you say
you may or may not see a lot of traffic initially.

MARKETING METHOD THREE: NEWSLETTERS

Start your own newsletter right away. While this does
not bring traffic to your site it does take advantage
of the visitors who do come. The code for collecting
emails can often be obtained from your host provider
for free or an autoresponder service which is free or
paid depending on your service.

Have a place for visitors to enter their email address
and name. Send them a free report or email once a week
with tips or news about your topic. This will permit
you to build a relationship with prospects as well as
grant you permission to contact them again with your
offer. It often takes up to seven contacts before a
prospect will buy, so don’t let them leave without
getting their email!

PRO: Permits you to contact interested prospects again.
Builds relationship with customers and potential
customers.
CON: Effort is needed to provide quality information on
a regular basis. Does not attract new visitors.

Each of the marketing strategies outlined above are
proven to work. What works best for you and your
business will depend on various factors such as; what
your business is, what time you can spend marketing and
what information you can provide. Start using two or
all three of these methods and you will be creating a
solid marketing foundation for your business.

Sincerely,

I Love Public Domain Works

August 16, 2006 by kevinlynch3 · 1 Comment

There’s so much public domain content available all over the
internet, with Master Resale Rights available and sites springing
up left and right with Private Label articles you can use to
create your own products, but what do you need to bear in mind,
what is the best way to use all this content and what can you
create with it?

What to Look Out For:

Copyright - you absolutely must check on this - violating
someone’s copyright is not clever and can be a really expensive
mistake not to mention seriously damaging your reputation. Is it
really public domain? All those lawyers fees can really mount up
when checking into all this but believe me, you really don’t want
to end up in court over it.

Public Domain Content - If you have the money to have a lawyer
look at copyright for you then fine, go ahead and get started.
Where can you find this type of content? It can be difficult to
find content that is free to use but here are a few links to get
you started:

http://www.gutenberg.org/
http://www.wikimedia.org/
http://www.gpoaccess.gov/index.html

Master Resale Rights - If you can’t afford expensive lawyers what
else can you do? One rather less pricey way is to buy Master
Resale Rights to a product - this gives you the opportunity to
name yourself as the author, use the content in another product,
rewrite the whole thing - the possibilities are endless. Just be
aware with this that you will need to look at the terms and
conditions of what you are allowed to do with the product before
you buy.

On a budget? - not to worry, there are still many ways you can
find great content without spending a fortune or worrying about
whether you can legally use it. Sites such as
http://www.instantpublicdomainprofits.com/
provide guaranteed public domain content for a small fee. You could also sign up to some of the well known
internet marketer’s newsletters. Why? Well if you’re serious
about internet marketing you should be checking out all the
latest happenings anyway, but a lot of newsletter owners will
have free ebooks, giveaways and articles to download - some of
which you will be able to use as your own.

So you’ve got your content ready to go and you’ve checked your
rights and permissions but there is one more thing to think about
- sites such as http://www.copyscape.com/ can check for duplicate
content on the internet and of course so can the search engines.
This could mean anything from the search engines deciding they
won’t rate your site as highly because the exact same content is
available elsewhere to some smarty pants asking you if you really
did write that incredibly good article because they’ve seen
someone else claiming that they wrote it too, so you do need to
be aware of this when looking to use content you haven’t
personally created, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go ahead
and make the most of all that wonderful information.

What Can You Do?

You could just read the information to learn from it yourself;
you could read it to get ideas for businesses, more articles,
content, the list is limited only by your imagination.

How about:

Ebooks
Print Books
Presentations
Membership Sites
Face to face courses
Mini courses
Teleclass content
Webcast content
Podcast content
Blog content
Content for your Autoresponder
Ezine content
Articles for your site to build AdSense income pages
Viral Reports
Tips Lists

When it comes to using all the content you have gathered, you
need to look through it all and decide what you want to produce.
If you plan to use content from more than one source, such as 2
or 3 articles by different authors to be combined into a report,
you will need to go through and change the content into a similar
style, check that it is all written in the same tense, make sure
the formatting is the same throughout, check for spelling and
grammar (for example - spelling for some words is different in
the US than the UK) and look through all the articles to see if
any of the points made are duplicated.

Once you’ve done this, make a list of points you want to make in
your report, read the articles through again and start combining
them together to fit what you want to say - cut and paste to copy
sections into the right place.

Next, look at the way your draft reads now and see if it fits
your style of writing, your personality and your business.
Reword it to fit with this - there’s no point in producing a very
formally written, stiff sounding report for a hobby site.

At this point you could just tweak it, proof read it, and then go
ahead and publish it but to take it a step further and make it
really unique, why not look at how you might rewrite it so that
all of the content is yours - now you’ve got the basic idea down
and laid out, it shouldn’t take you long to reword things, add in
some of your own ideas and keywords that fit your site, and maybe
a few quotes and suddenly you’re looking at something that no-one
else has got, that the search engines will love and that no-one
can claim you copied.

The Secrets of an Opt-in List

August 5, 2006 by kevinlynch3 · Leave a Comment

opt-inNo doubt emails are being used to distribute news letters, promotional mails, and other stuff. How then would you be able to round up email addresses to send those marketing mails you have? Here is where an opt-in list comes in.

An opt-in list is a directory of email address you can send to those mails to. Though it seems to be easy to find email addresses, if you are talking thousands in numbers, it is going to be hard. Besides, you have to determine the recipient of the email. You wouldn’t want your readers mostly male if you are selling lipsticks, right?

A good opt-in list should include the profile of the email address owner. Here are tips on how to create a comprehensive opt-in list for target market.

Create your website.
Creating a website is made simple nowadays. A lot of programs are milling about assisting regular computer users in making and maintaining websites in a real simple way. Some website creator just needs you to cut and paste, like that of a regular paint program. Several web hosting sites are available too. Some are even free. If you have a site of your own, you can ask visitors to register with you or sign your guest book as they leave.

Set up a promotion or a freebie.
Not all the best things in life are free, as they say. But you can definitely try to give something out for sure. You can see this done all over the web. Free screensavers, free games, free download of programs. And what do they need from you? They just ask for an email address, your name and a little something more about you. Then you can place a check box on the registration form for sending of email. For sure, you can think of something to give out as well.

Write and write some more.
There are some web magazines where in readers can submit their writings for a particular topic. If you had a chance to do so, add a link to your article providing information about what you are trying to promote. Some readers of your article may enjoy your work so much they’d like to contact you, so don’t forget to leave your email address too.

Pose an easy opt-out option.
People who like to join your opt-in list would, along the way may want to opt out of it somehow. People who are wary of joining may not join at all if they see that it would be near impossible to remove their email address from the listing. Show them that it is as easy to opt-out as it is opting in.

Check other’s strategy too.
It would be better if you can find a partner in generating an opt-in list. This way, you can split the expenses and both of you can share the list generated. It will be best to partner with a company that has a business similar to your own line. Both of you can profit more should that be the case.

Use offline ways too.
You can put up a small raffle preferably in a supermarket for a certain item they buy. You can place an email address opt-in part in the raffle entry to add to your list. This way, you’d also know the buying preferences of the participants if you mark the entries systemically.

Creating an opt-in list entails a lot of work and funds. You should outline how much you will spend in creating an opt-in list. People appearing at opt-in lists are sales prospects. They are those interested in a certain product that you may be selling. Obtaining an optimal opt-in list would boost your sales up so these tools are undoubtedly essential.

Acquire an opt-in list now or generate one. Either way, you are reaching to people that can be your one of your treasured customers for a long period time.
