Website Design What To Do First

January 28, 2010 by Larry Edwards · Leave a Comment

In the matter of website design what to do first, a person who is contemplating starting a website or some sort of blog and who thinks that he or she might like to take a crack at designing it needs to keep a few things in mind. First of all, anyone interested in designing a website should sit down and come up with a plan or a concept for what it should look like.

This means, of course, that no small amount of research is going to need to be done beforehand. What is meant by research is the fact that a person will need to correctly identify the market or niche that the website is going to be targeted at. Eventually designing a site that gives the viewer or reader the impression that it is about bicycles when it is really about motorcycles is just one example of intelligent website design.

Along with deciding or determining the kind of niche that the website will be targeted at should be a realization that the site must, above all else, be usable and logical to any visitor or reader who happens to land there. This can create a bit of tension between the desire to make the website look space-age or really relevant, graphics wise, and the need to also be functional and easy to maneuver around.

Those who fail to realize this simple requirement (usability) tend to have websites designed that require multiple plug-ins or that end up taking a really long time to load on a user’s computer because they are extremely heavy with graphics that cause images to load very slowly. Studies show that most viewers of a website will quickly move on if they have any sort of issue viewing that site.

This is why it is important to do the research, identify the market or niche, and then — first of all — design the site so that it is extremely usable. Most experts recommend that websites should try to make use of black text on white backgrounds if possible. If a background is desired, designers should also try to use a plain-color background or go with something that is very subtle.

This is why it will be vital to make sure that the text itself is in a printable color, meaning that while white text on a black background looks good, if it doesn’t print in some other color other than white they’re going to be many user complaints or visits to the website will quickly drop off.

In the end, the matters of website design what to do first come down to research and then usability. Conduct your research to make sure that you are coming up with a thoughtful and relevant website and then make that website extremely easy to use when visitors arrive there.

Basics Of SEO

January 27, 2010 by Carey Lim · Leave a Comment

Any query of a popular phrase in a search engine would result in a huge number of results. In this situation, the techniques which allow a business to appear in the first few results for a search using a particular word is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO. Figuring at the top of a web search can attract more traffic for your website, resulting in more business, and that is why SEO has attained such popularity in the past few years.

Black hat and white hat are the two primary classifications of SEO techniques. Black hat means use of methods, which are usually frowned upon, for making a site figure in top results. In contrast, white hat SEO abides by all the principles prescribed by the search engines and concentrates on the methods which are commonly accepted.

The search engines in the past matched a webpage with the search for a particular word by making use of Meta data, which is generally embedded in the code of a webpage. However, key search engines now make use of complex algorithms to show the results that are filtered on the basis of more than 200 distinct factors.

SEO consultants continuously attempt to guess the importance of different factors that play a role in the search algorithms and stay abreast with the advancements that search engines make. This knowledge aids them in improving the SEO strategies for their clients to enable them to figure in top results of popular keywords. For the earlier algorithms, which utilized just the Meta data and web site content, the optimization method used was to bring the desnity of a keyword on the page to an appropriate level and managing the Meta tags of the page.

Although these factors are critical even today, the popularity of the web page is now more significant for the search engines. The popularity of a web page is estimated based on how many inbound links it has from other web pages. It is more like a democratic process as each link to the web page can be treated as a vote. Therefore, SEO nowadays needs strategic work outside the site such as distributing free content in exchange of links to the website and creating presence on blogs and other interactive mediums online.

The important aspect of SEO to be always remembered is that it is not a one time task. The field is constantly changing and your techniques have to adjust to those changes. This is what makes utilizing the services of a professional SEO consultant so vital.

January 23, 2010 by Adam Burnett · Leave a Comment

What is a lanyard? It is simply an item that allows you to secure something so you can have easy access to it, such as an ID card or an event name tag. Commonly, a lanyard can be worn around the neck, but can also be worn on the arm, waist or wrist.

Most lanyards are normally created from a cord; cotton, nylon, or polyester twill. Several other lanyards are made out of denim, fleece, PVC, satin or even leather.

There are a few options to attach your item to the lanyard. Alligator or bulldog clips, swivel hooks (metal or plastic), spring hooks or split rings, are a few of the ways.

There are so many people that use a lanyard these days. Lanyards have become very popular these days. It is now possible to be able to say ‘hi’ to so many people by their first name now, because they are working their work ID cards around their necks, with their names clearly showing. They become welded almost to their body!

Frequently used with lanyards are plastic badge holders, to protect the badge from damage. Most companies that sell lanyards will also sell you all the accessories also like badge holders & other attachment items. Another thing you might want to buy for your lanyard is a retractable badge reel, for your security passes. This chord allows the user to scan their security card without having to remove the lanyard. The cards can be retracted close to their pocket so it won’t swing around the neck. It is most useful in work environments where there are moving machines. Entanglement with the moving machinery will be prevented, and so are the accidents that could arise from them. You can get lanyards with built in plastic safety breakaways should this be needed.

Lanyards are great for advertising purposes of course. It can double as a name tag and advertising tag if the lanyard is custom printed with a company slogan, name, or logo.

Flat lanyards can be printed on. Those made out of polyester twill, nylon, or cotton are usually flat and their surface are ideal for printing designs and logos. It is possible to use 3 different printing techniques, namely hot stamping, screen-printing and dye sublimation. The cheapest of the 3 is hot stamping, because it uses only 1 color. This method is best for badges used at trade shows or by students. Screen-printing produces a higher quality and longer lasting image with colored ink, in case you need a more durable and better quality finish. Dye sublimation is the most expensive technique, which makes sense seeing it produces the most detailed & longest lasting image.

Pens May Be Used As Corporate Gifts

January 11, 2010 by Cherry Soto · Leave a Comment

Pens are small and fairly inexpensive. In respect to using them as gifts, they are well utilized. They don’t get thrown until they have been fully used. Depending on usage, they usually have a life span of one to two months.. They are a perfect gift, because they are versatile.

Nowadays, black ballpoint pens are the most common ink color; most pen makers would agree. For advertising exposure purposes, the black ballpoint pen cannot easily be beaten for dollar for dollar advertising & market exposure value. Your clients can be constantly reminded of your company every day when you add your branding or unique company features to the pen.

Black ballpoints are the most preferred amongst sales people & office workers but blue is next in line in popularity. Odd and interesting colours such as pink or orange can also be used, but are of little usability. They’re best for children’s wear businesses or party-hire companies. After all, practicality is the issue, so a gift pen with black or blue ink is your best bet.

Imagination is the only limit when it comes to the exterior appearance of a pen. And as long as the pen is still usable practically as a pen, then you would still achieve your exposure goals.

For the body of the pen you should first focus on the company information you want to add and then consider the design of the body next. If you do not do this you may end up choosing a physical design that you cannot add the information you want which would defeat the original purpose.

When it comes to the body of the pen, do not go too cheap. Quality looking pens will be preferred by more people than cheap looking ones. Also do not use the cheapest pen interior. A lot of us has thrown away a pen in frustration because a pen does not work when we tried using it. If a person gets this experience from your pens, they can associate it easily with your company. They will end with a bad impression of your business.

Good suppliers of corporate gifts should be able to not only purchase the pens you want in the bulks you need, but also be able to consult you on some of the pen body design and quality aspects that we have covered.
