Registering an Alberta Small Business
May 16, 2010 by Holly Crosgrey · Leave a Comment
An Alberta Registration of a Sole Proprietorship is governed by the Partnership Act (Alberta). An Alberta Sole Proprietorship is sometimes called an Alberta Trade Name.
The statutes indicates that an individual who (a) is engaged in business for trading, manufacturing, contracting or mining purposes; and (2) is not associated in partnership with any other person or persons and uses as the person’s business name some name or designation other than the person’s own, or the person’s own name with the addition of “and company” or some other word or phrase indicating a plurality of members in a firm; shall file with the Alberta Registrar a declaration in writing of the fact. If you are planning on registering a sole proprietorship it would be appropriate for you to take a look at the Alberta Partnership Act provisions for Alberta sole proprietorships.
In layman’s terms what the statute is trying to say is that any individual who is operating under a name other than his or her own name must register an Alberta sole proprietorship. A sole proprietorship registration in Alberta must be filed six months from the date it commences business in Alberta.
You are not required to provide an Alberta Nuans name search report to register an Alberta Registration such as a sole proprietorship. The Partnership Act (Alberta) has no requirement for an Alberta trade name /Alberta sole proprietorship name to be unique. Any company, sole proprietorship or partnership can register the same Alberta business name at the same time. This does not mean that you should just go ahead and register any name you wish. It is important that you make all attempts to have a distinct name for an Alberta Registration that is very different from all names out there.
First you must determine whether there are any conflicts to the name you wish to use and this is done by having a search house perform a preliminary name search for you. Search houses will usually clear your proposed name for free when you purchase their service to register your sole proprietorship and others will provide you with a preliminary name search for a small fee.
An individual can conduct business as a sole proprietorship by using his or her name and not registering an actual Alberta trade name. In fact the Alberta government will not allow you to register a sole proprietorship under your personal name. In some cases though it might be advantageous to have an Alberta registration in place such as when a corporate client wishes the sole proprietorship to acknowledge he or she has a valid business registration in place or in some cases where ancillary licenses are required for the company and a Alberta registration document must be shown. The federal government does not care if you have a Alberta sole proprietorship registration in place in order to issue you a federal Business Number. The federal business number is connected to the individual rather than the Alberta trade name registration.
It will not be possible for you to register your Alberta sole proprietorship by doing on your own. You must use a service provider to assist you. If you chose the right service provider it will do a preliminary name search on your name for free before they register your name and will ensure it is available and clear right across Canada.
To terminate an Alberta trade name registration a form must be filed called a Declaration of Ceasing to Carry on Business under a Trade Name.
An Alberta Trade Name registration is perpetual which means that it will stay in place until you terminate the registration.

Triple Your Site Traffic With Twitter And Your Blog

Social Media Marketing has taken the Internet world by storm with sites like Twitter and Facebook. Today website owners are discovering the benefits of tying in their blogs to their social bookmarking sites to create even more exposure. Basically, the way this works, each time a post is made to your blog an instant tweet is created and sent to your Twitter account. Each of your followers will receive that tweet creating a “viral tweet” for your blog post. It gets even better.
As I’m sure you already are aware, Twitter is a social bookmarking site that can send short messages of 140 characters or less to hundreds, thousands or millions of people within seconds. The best way to define it is that it’s a “micro blogging” tool. When Twitter first arrived a few years ago it quickly became popular as a way to communicate with your friends or family. Over the past two years it has emerged as a commercial tool used by home, small and large companies. Even the President has a Twitter account.
This where you, as a home business owner, come in. You can use Twitter to communicate to your followers sending them messages with all types of information. Of course you just can’t send tweet after tweet with sales pitches that will make you very unpopular and people will “unfollow” you. It’s much more subtle than that. That’s when you tie your blog up to your Twitter account, sending informational tweets on auto pilot each time a post is made on your blog.
How is this accomplished? It’s a really simple process so I can outline it here. First create your Twitter account and tie it’s theme to your blog’s theme. The next step is to install a special plug-in to your blog. Go to your plugin’s page and click the add a new plugin tab. Search for the “Twitter Tools” plugin, (Make sure it’s the free plugin from Alex King.) Install and activate it. You will need to set it up first by using the setting tab. You will now automatically create a tweet each time a post is created on your blog.
With each blog post you are creating an automatic tweet with a url back to your blog. Each individual follower now gets a tweet with each post that is made to your blog. This best feature is that it’s done automatically for you through the plugin creating pure organic traffic back to your blog.
If you are interested in pushing this a little bit further you can also put your Twitter account on auto pilot as well by actively looking for people that are tweeting about your niche and you can start to follow them. In most cases they will begin to follow you as well helping to create additional followers for your Twitter account. You can get some additional information on this at our www.twittasaurus.com website.

More Money By Working Online
November 12, 2009 by George Stanley · Leave a Comment
If you want to make a living online, there are a few things that you should keep in mind in this type of global economy.
Many people are losing their jobs or are receiving cutbacks on the pay that they had once received at their original jobs. One way to circumvent this problem is to turn to the internet.
The internet is limitless and it does not matter where you are on the planet when you use it. You can be working for someone who lives in a completely different city and have no problems at all.
If you want to make a living online, where can you start? I would like to recommend that you start at a place where your strengths lie.
So, if you are particularly good at writing, you may want to start up a blog or offer your writing services to other blog owners who want or need articles for their own blogs.
On the other hand, if you are good with computers or can learn a few skills, you can begin setting up other people’s websites or doing other technical work that many people dislike doing. This is the kind of work people will pay money for.
As time goes on and you get more and more clients, you can begin to charge them more which will eventually lead to a decent income for yourself.
If you continue on like this, you will see that you can earn just as much money as you can at a regular job or sometimes, you can even earn more than a normal job!
One last bit of advice is that if you go the blogging route, I would highly recommend taking a look at Google’s Adsense program because it allows blog owners to easily put up ads on their sites and begin earning money by visitors clicking on the ads. It is top notch.
