January 23, 2010 by Adam Burnett · Leave a Comment

What is a lanyard? It is simply an item that allows you to secure something so you can have easy access to it, such as an ID card or an event name tag. Commonly, a lanyard can be worn around the neck, but can also be worn on the arm, waist or wrist.

Most lanyards are normally created from a cord; cotton, nylon, or polyester twill. Several other lanyards are made out of denim, fleece, PVC, satin or even leather.

There are a few options to attach your item to the lanyard. Alligator or bulldog clips, swivel hooks (metal or plastic), spring hooks or split rings, are a few of the ways.

There are so many people that use a lanyard these days. Lanyards have become very popular these days. It is now possible to be able to say ‘hi’ to so many people by their first name now, because they are working their work ID cards around their necks, with their names clearly showing. They become welded almost to their body!

Frequently used with lanyards are plastic badge holders, to protect the badge from damage. Most companies that sell lanyards will also sell you all the accessories also like badge holders & other attachment items. Another thing you might want to buy for your lanyard is a retractable badge reel, for your security passes. This chord allows the user to scan their security card without having to remove the lanyard. The cards can be retracted close to their pocket so it won’t swing around the neck. It is most useful in work environments where there are moving machines. Entanglement with the moving machinery will be prevented, and so are the accidents that could arise from them. You can get lanyards with built in plastic safety breakaways should this be needed.

Lanyards are great for advertising purposes of course. It can double as a name tag and advertising tag if the lanyard is custom printed with a company slogan, name, or logo.

Flat lanyards can be printed on. Those made out of polyester twill, nylon, or cotton are usually flat and their surface are ideal for printing designs and logos. It is possible to use 3 different printing techniques, namely hot stamping, screen-printing and dye sublimation. The cheapest of the 3 is hot stamping, because it uses only 1 color. This method is best for badges used at trade shows or by students. Screen-printing produces a higher quality and longer lasting image with colored ink, in case you need a more durable and better quality finish. Dye sublimation is the most expensive technique, which makes sense seeing it produces the most detailed & longest lasting image.

Pens are small and fairly inexpensive. In respect to using them as gifts, they are well utilized. They don’t get thrown until they have been fully used. Depending on usage, they usually have a life span of one to two months.. They are a perfect gift, because they are versatile.

Nowadays, black ballpoint pens are the most common ink color; most pen makers would agree. For advertising exposure purposes, the black ballpoint pen cannot easily be beaten for dollar for dollar advertising & market exposure value. Your clients can be constantly reminded of your company every day when you add your branding or unique company features to the pen.

Black ballpoints are the most preferred amongst sales people & office workers but blue is next in line in popularity. Odd and interesting colours such as pink or orange can also be used, but are of little usability. They’re best for children’s wear businesses or party-hire companies. After all, practicality is the issue, so a gift pen with black or blue ink is your best bet.

Imagination is the only limit when it comes to the exterior appearance of a pen. And as long as the pen is still usable practically as a pen, then you would still achieve your exposure goals.

For the body of the pen you should first focus on the company information you want to add and then consider the design of the body next. If you do not do this you may end up choosing a physical design that you cannot add the information you want which would defeat the original purpose.

When it comes to the body of the pen, do not go too cheap. Quality looking pens will be preferred by more people than cheap looking ones. Also do not use the cheapest pen interior.
